What could be the biggest initial public offering (IPO) in history is just around the corner. Anthropic will make its public debut next month and is hoping to raise $100 billion in the process. If it's successful, that would surpass even the blockbuster Space Exploration Technologies(NASDAQ: SPCX) listing that took place in June.
There's certainly a lot of excitement around this one, with investors eager to get a piece of what could be a potentially transformative company. So, with Anthropic's IPO prospectus finally open to the public, here are some of the key figures to watch if you're trying to decide whether you want a piece, too.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 14x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our analysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
1. Sales hit $16.3 billion
Anthropic's S-1 revealed just how quickly its business has grown. Revenue rose from $41 million in 2023 to $386 million in 2024, then jumped to nearly $4.6 billion in 2025, and in the first six months of 2026 alone, it brought in over 3.5 times that -- $16.3 billion.
2. Revenue growth topped 1,300%
Anthropic's top line for the first half of 2026 was about 1,300% bigger than for the first half of 2025. In other words, for every dollar it brought in during the first half of last year, it generated about $14 during the same period this year. That is a pretty insane growth pace.
However, for all the hype around that figure, the company's third-quarter numbers were absent from its S-1, and if recent reporting on the subject is correct, the company's pace of growth slowed in the period. Whether that is a blip or a sign of something more concerning remains to be seen, but it's definitely something to watch.
3. An $80.7 billion loss, but an operational profit
Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, nearly double its $42 billion loss for all of 2025. But that is a misleading figure. The lion's share of it -- $72.4 billion -- comes from an accounting charge tied to revaluing convertible debt. That's a paper loss and has little to do with the actual functioning of the business.
On an operating basis, the company's loss narrowed from $2.1 billion in the first half of 2025 to $693 million in the first half of 2026. And Anthropic actually generated a $974 million operating profit in the second quarter alone.
Again, what matters is the trend. We'll have to wait and see if the company's profitability holds.
4. Anthropic's spending commitments hit $750 billion
This is the number I think could be the most important. Anthropic is on the hook to pay somewhere close to $750 billion in the coming years to compute providers and chipmakers. And most of these contracts can't be canceled. That means that if Anthropic's sales growth projections turn out to be too optimistic, the company is going to wind up in a tight spot financially.
