ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd.ASX raised its leading-edge packaging (LEAP) revenue outlook during its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, supported by robust demand and accelerating capacity expansion.
The company also surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate for third-quarter earnings and revenues. Management highlighted improving margins, higher capital spending and persistent manufacturing constraints as important factors shaping its outlook through 2027.
ASE Technology Raises LEAP Revenue Outlook for 2026
Group CFO Joseph Tung raised the company's 2026 LEAP revenue projection to more than $4 billion from the previously anticipated $3.7 billion.
Responding to a UBS analyst, Tung reaffirmed expectations that LEAP revenues would double in 2027, supported by continued expansion across advanced packaging and testing services.
Head of investor relations and senior vice president Kenneth Hsiang explained that demand continued to exceed available capacity across LEAP and much of the company's traditional operations. Faster equipment installations helped third-quarter revenues exceed management's initial expectations.
ASX Beats Q3 Earnings & Revenue Estimates
ASX reported third-quarter 2026 earnings of 37 cents per American Depositary Share, topping the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 34 cents. This represents an earnings surprise of approximately 8.82%.
Quarterly revenues reached $7.63 billion, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $7.39 billion. Consolidated revenues increased 44.8% year over year and 27.8% sequentially.

Management attributed the stronger performance primarily to increased LEAP loading and improved operating efficiency. Consolidated gross margin expanded 110 basis points sequentially to 22.1%, while operating margin reached 13.6%.
ASE Technology Sees Advanced Packaging Margins Expanding
ASX's assembly, testing and materials (ATM) gross margin reached 30.6%, expanding 330 basis points sequentially as higher LEAP utilization improved profitability.
During an exchange with a JPMorgan analyst, Tung explained that the company's previous structural margin ceiling had become its new baseline. He projected sequential gross margin improvements throughout 2027.
Management also emphasized stronger utilization across mainstream packaging and testing operations. Favorable pricing conditions and increasing LEAP contributions were identified as additional drivers of margin expansion.
ASX Targets Growth in Full-Process Packaging and CPO
Tung maintained ASE Technology's 2026 full-process packaging revenue projection at $300 million while targeting more than $1 billion in 2027.
Responding to UBS and JPMorgan analysts, management confirmed that production yields supported mass manufacturing and major shipments. However, factory availability remained a significant constraint despite multiple customer engagements.
Tung also projected more than $500 million in co-packaged optics (CPO) revenues for 2027. During the Q&A, he confirmed that CPO mass production had begun in the fourth quarter of 2026.
ASE Technology Increases Capital Spending to Address Constraints
Tung increased the company's 2026 capital expenditure budget to $11.5 billion from $10.5 billion. Half the incremental investment targets facilities, while the remainder supports equipment purchases.
Of the additional equipment spending, 60% will support LEAP operations and 40% mainstream businesses. Management expects capital expenditures in 2027 to exceed the 2026 level.
Hsiang highlighted 22 ongoing building projects in Taiwan, with more than half expected to support some revenue generation through 2027. Tung acknowledged that continued expansion would result in negative cash flow next year.
ASX Projects Further Growth in Q4
Tung guided for fourth-quarter consolidated revenue growth of 6% to 8% sequentially, assuming an exchange rate of NT$31.9 per U.S. dollar.
Management projected consolidated gross margins of 23% to 24% and operating margins of 14.5% to 15.5%. ATM revenues are expected to increase 11% to 13% sequentially, with gross margins improving another 100 to 200 basis points.
EMS revenues should remain approximately flat sequentially, with operating margins around 2%. Management cited elevated component costs and product mix pressures affecting EMS profitability.
ASE Technology Maintains Focus on Capacity and Profitability
Management's commentary reflected confidence in sustained advanced packaging demand, alongside recognition that factory space and equipment availability continue to restrict growth.
ASE Technology remains focused on expanding manufacturing capacity, increasing LEAP contributions and improving margins while managing substantial investment requirements.
