Bank OZK has long been framed as a high quality, high return regional bank with a valuation story attached. Q3 2026 results kept that profit engine humming, with basic earnings per share of US$1.50 on total revenue of US$391.5m, yet the immediate headline for investors is the share price, which jumped about 4.2% to US$48.09 the day after the release.
That move comes after a flat 30 day run and a 90 day decline of about 4%. The gap now is between a stock that has finally popped and an earnings print that still reflects strong profitability and a low P/E multiple against US banks.

Bank OZK's Loan Mix Shift Is Hitting Key Markers
That bullish view on Bank OZK hinges on whether the business can really turn its CIB push and Sunbelt buildout into better quality revenue.
"Bullish analysts expect Bank OZK to convert the shift toward Corporate & Institutional Banking and growth in high growth markets like Raleigh, Central Florida and Houston into higher quality loan and fee revenue over time."
Q3 shows real progress toward that goal. CIB is scaling fast, with management expecting it to surpass RESG balances around 2027. Recent loan growth leaned heavily on CIB, indirect lending and community banking. CIB deposits climbed more than 20% quarter on quarter, which supports the idea of deeper, fee capable relationships even as RESG repayments stay elevated.

Bank OZK Bear Case: Earnings Drag Still Visible
Bearish investors worry Bank OZK's real estate clean up will keep earnings under pressure for longer than management implies.
"Even with a history of conservative underwriting and sizeable reserves, recent charge offs and downgrades tied to stressed life science and office properties, including a Seattle office and life science building and other RESG credits moved to substandard or OREO, indicate that credit costs tied to this late stage commercial real estate cycle may keep pressure on provision expense and net earnings longer than bullish models assume."
Q3 numbers do not overturn that concern. Net income fell year on year, net interest margin slipped to 4.24%, and management still expects elevated net charge offs through at least 2026.
