EchoStar (ECHO) shares rose 5.2% on Friday, November 6, 2026, outpacing a 0.3% gain for the S&P 500. The company issued no announcements, earnings reports or filings around the move, which came one session after the stock fell 8.8% on November 5. So what was happening in the market and among EchoStar's peers that Friday?

What Moved Stocks On November 6?

On November 6, a strong October jobs report sent Treasury yields higher, while the Nasdaq Composite index rose 1.1% that session. Industry peer Charter reported third-quarter results and launched a new operating model alongside a plan to cut costs by $2 billion. Charter also recorded another subscriber loss in its Spectrum Internet business, and its shares fell 6.2%.

EchoStar operates a differently structured business. Management said on its August 3 call that a lot of the company's value is based on SpaceX, where EchoStar holds 261.8 million shares. Beyond that stake, EchoStar runs Boost, a wireless business that lost subscribers in the second quarter, along with a traditional video business that management said continues to throw off cash. On November 2, Reuters reported that SpaceX was in talks to buy Boost Mobile or gain access to its network.

Where EchoStar Stock Stands Now

A one-day rise this large is not rare for EchoStar. The stock has climbed at least this much in 16 sessions over the prior 365 days. Its most recent move of this magnitude, up or down, was the decline recorded the day before.

Over the past twelve months, EchoStar stock returned 30.8%, against 9.8% for the S&P 500. On November 6 it closed well below its highest close of the past year, $141.80 on May 20, 2026, and well above its lowest, $66.93 on November 17, 2025. Over the six months since May 8, the stock lost 25.6%, while the S&P 500 was roughly flat. On sales, EchoStar trades at 2.3 times, against 3.1 times for the S&P 500.

EchoStar's next earnings report is expected later in November 2026. The figure to watch is management's estimate of what shutting down its wireless network and paying its tax liability will cost, an expense it placed at $5 billion to $7 billion on its August 3 call.

Does This Mean You Should Act On ECHO?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices - the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
