Negative Points
-
Operating EBITDA margin declined sequentially by 230 basis points, primarily due to wage increases and higher spending on computers and network infrastructure, which weighed on profitability.
-
The BFSI segment remained flat sequentially, lagging behind company growth, with management expecting a turnaround only from H2 onwards, indicating continued near-term weakness.
-
The retail vertical experienced softness due to supply chain challenges from the prolonged Middle East conflict, leading to cautious client spending, longer decision cycles, and delays in discretionary projects.
-
Total headcount declined by 0.6% quarter-on-quarter, and while billable headcount increased due to higher utilization, the reduction reflects a cautious approach to hiring amid an uncertain environment.
-
The company is facing margin headwinds from its expansion into new delivery locations like Cairo, Lima, and Manila, which operate at lower gross margins than India, potentially pressuring overall profitability.
-
The top 5 clients have shown relatively slow growth, partly due to a less onerous regulatory environment for financial services in the US, which has reduced demand for compliance-related services.

Q: The BFSI segment has been lagging behind company growth. Is this an area of concern, and by when do you see it catching up with company growth or even going ahead of it? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): While BFSI was flat quarter-on-quarter, the growth gradient is moving in a positive direction compared to previous quarters. With the current pipeline and client discussions, we are confident of turning this around and seeing momentum build up, with benefits starting from H2 onwards.
Q: There has been an increase in tech services headcount. Is this an investment you are making, and by when do you see it paying off? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): This is a mix of investments in AI, creating an AI COE, and running pilots. Our tech and analytics business is growing at 7%, higher than the company average, and we are leading all client discussions with AI and generative AI. The growth momentum, conversions, and maintaining the 24-28% margin range ensure we are getting the right return on investment.
Q: Coming quarters' growth is typically dependent on headcount, but this time headcount has marginally gone down. Is it a slightly softer quarter ahead, or is it more about improving utilization and AI activity? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): While total headcount has come down, billable headcount has increased due to higher utilization. We are confident of delivering sequential growth, and while there will be quarterly variations, we are confident of achieving top-quartile growth for the full year based on current discussions and momentum.
Q: ACV this quarter has seen 20% growth. Do you believe this Y-o-Y growth momentum can continue, and can you comment on the full-year ACV target? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): Last year we delivered around $170 million in ACV. Our aspiration is to at least match and grow on that number to provide a tailwind as we enter FY27-28. At this stage, I see no reason why we are not marching towards that goal.
Q: You mentioned you are chasing mortgage as a new area within BFSI. What is the specific opportunity in terms of market, customer size, or geographies? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): We have a couple of clients talking to us about mortgages and have some momentum in that area, primarily in the US. Our focus is on making sure these initial engagements are successful before deciding on broader market strategy. The work is in the servicing side of the business.
Q: On margins, a rupee depreciation benefit was not called out. Didn't we see any mitigating impact of currency movement on margins? A: Srinivasan (CFO): The impact of FX on delivery quarter-on-quarter would have been around 0.5% or 50 basis points. The majority of the 330 basis point decline was due to wage increments, with G&A and S&D largely offsetting each other.
Q: There has been softness in the CMT vertical. Is this related to the US government regulation on short-call operations that was being monitored? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): There has been no further change in regulation from what we reported last quarter. The sequential growth decline in CMT from 7% to 1.3% is just a quarterly aberration and has nothing to do with regulatory changes.
Q: Top 5 accounts have been relatively slow for some time. Is it particular client-related weakness? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): The slowdown is linked to the overall regulatory environment for financial services in the US, which is slightly less onerous than it was 2-3 years back. This has impacted client refreshes in the FCC area. There is no other reason for the slower growth in existing top 5 clients.
Q: Can you provide an overview on the emerging business, which has seen drastic growth? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): Our F&A business started with SMEs and is gradually moving into the mid-market segment. We have built a financial workbench that resonates well with clients for automating processes. We expect to see good momentum in the emerging business on the back of our F&A capability.
Q: What is the CapEx guidance for the next 3 years and revenue growth expectations? A: Kapil Jain (MD & Group CEO): CapEx may be slightly higher, running at around 1.3% of revenue. Revenue growth guidance remains the same, and we are confident of staying in the top quartile of the industry given our capabilities and industry tailwinds.
