Gabelli Investment Management Firm recently released its "Equity Income Fund" second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here . The Fund highlighted a strong rebound in U.S. equities, during the second quarter of 2026, with its Class I shares gaining 6.76%, compared with a 9.70% return for the Lipper Equity Income Fund Average. The fund's performance came as the S&P 500 advanced about 15%, while value stocks gained 8% and growth stocks surged 22%, with technology leading the market with a 32% gain; however, weakness in Energy and Utilities and the fund's positioning in income-oriented securities limited its relative performance. Over the past year, the fund returned 18.44%, broadly in line with the 18.98% gain for its benchmark. The firm noted that AI investment remains a major market driver, with the five largest hyperscalers expected to spend about $1 trillion in 2027, while semiconductor industry revenue is projected to exceed $1.3 trillion in 2026, up more than 60% year over year. At the same time, inflation remains a key risk, with May CPI accelerating to 4.2%, while the market was pricing roughly 1.5 Fed rate hikes by year-end, compared with expectations for a rate cut at the start of Q2. Corporate fundamentals remained strong, with all 11 S&P 500 sectors reporting year-over-year revenue growth, median earnings growth near 16%, and full-year S&P 500 EPS expectations rising to about 25%, while the forward P/E multiple declined from 22x to roughly 20x. Looking forward, Gabelli remains constructive on markets but sees AI spending, inflation, interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and elevated valuations as key factors to monitor, while continuing to emphasize fundamental research, margin of safety, and diversified portfolios. Gabelli's Equity Income Fund stated the following regarding Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE:GPC) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE:GPC)(3.4%) (GPC – $117.98 – NYSE) is an Atlanta, Georgia-based distributor of automotive and industrial replacement parts. The Company is in the process of separating its Industrial and Global Automotive businesses into two independently traded companies. We believe this will unlock shareholder value and enhance the strategic focus and long-term growth prospects of both businesses. Within Global Automotive, favorable industry fundamentals, including an aging vehicle fleet, a growing vehicles-in-operation base, and increasing vehicle complexity, continue to drive demand toward the professional repair channel, where GPC is well positioned with approximately 80% exposure. For the Industrial business, improving end market activity, combined with its market-leading position and cash flow generation, should support accelerated growth and market share gains."
