MEXICO CITY - Grupo Mexico's transportation division - which includes Ferromex, Ferrosur, Florida East Coast Railway, and Texas Pacifico - reported higher first-quarter profits as revenue and volume both grew.
GMXT's operating income increased 7%, to $239 million U.S. dollars, as revenue grew 15.5%, to $895 million. The operating ratio was 73%, which was 2 points higher than a year ago.
Overall volume was up 4.4% compared to the first quarter of 2025, or 8.9% when measured by tons per kilometer. The growth was led by agriculture shipments, which were up 12.5%, and automotive traffic, which was up 11.5%. Cement volume increased 10%.
Although Grupo Mexico posted financial results on its website on Tuesday, the company did not post the quarterly presentation slides that traditionally have outlined the combined railroads' key operational metrics.
