Investing.com-- Hindustan Unilever (NSE:HLL) reported a 6% increase in quarterly profit on Wednesday, as strong Indian consumer demand helped offset higher raw material costs.
The Indian unit of UK-based Unilever, which owns brands including Lakme and Kwality Wall's, posted a profit of 28.44 billion rupees ($299.01 million) for the quarter ended September 30. This compares to 26.9 billion rupees in the same period last year.
Product sales at Hindustan Unilever rose 15% to 173.99 billion rupees for the quarter ended September 30. Volume growth reached 7% during the same period.
The strong print was driven chiefly by robust spending on fast-moving consumer goods, which has remained resilient despite broader economic headwinds in India. Unilever has also capitalized on this strength by releasing more, diverse premium products.
