Investing.com -- Howard Hughes Holdings Inc (NYSE:HHH) shares rose 4.4% in premarket trading Monday following the announcement that the company will join the S&P SmallCap 600 index.
S&P Dow Jones Indices announced Friday that Howard Hughes Holdings will replace Arcosa Inc. in the S&P SmallCap 600 effective prior to the opening of trading on Wednesday, October 28. The change follows the acquisition of Arcosa by S&P 500 constituent CRH PLC ADR (NYSE:CRH), which closed on October 23.
Howard Hughes Holdings operates in the Real Estate sector, while Arcosa, the company it is replacing, is classified under Industrials.
Index inclusion typically generates buying interest from passive funds that track the benchmark, as these funds must purchase shares of newly added companies to maintain alignment with the index composition.
