Lazard: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

Trade Lazard on Coinbase

On its third quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Lazard(NYSE:LAZ) reported an 11% year-over-year increase in adjusted net revenue, driven by expanding deal activity in mergers and acquisitions (M&A, the business of corporate buyouts and combinations). For long-term shareholders, the advisory firm is showing signs that heavy investments in senior talent and private market advisory are beginning to expand top-line earnings power while management curbs overhead expenses.

Three things management said stand out.

1. Advisory Pipeline Doubles as Transaction Velocity Accelerates

Lazard is seeing a surge in client engagements, with its probability-weighted advisory pipeline for 2027 reaching twice the volume of its 2026 pipeline from a year ago. Management attributed this velocity to past hires of managing directors (MDs, senior executive advisors), whose productivity is accelerating past initial ramp-up costs.

Our weighted pipeline for 2027 is now two times our 2026 pipeline at this time last year.
-- Peter Orszag, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

2. Expansion into Private Capital Advisory Adds Growth Scale

The pending acquisition of placement agent Campbell Lutyens establishes Lazard CL, a dedicated unit targeting private fundraising and secondary advisory. Management expects this division to be accretive (boosting per-share earnings) by 2027 while capturing expanded deal flow across private equity and infrastructure.

In private capital advisory, we continue to anticipate Lazard CL will generate approximately $500 million of revenue and will be accretive to earnings in 2027, even before accounting for potential synergies.
-- Peter Orszag, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

3. Restructuring Operations Decouples Future Costs from Revenue

To expand operating margins, management is modernizing corporate workflows and adopting artificial intelligence tools across support functions. The objective is to automate routine tasks, lower administrative overhead, and ensure non-compensation expenses (operating costs excluding staff salaries) no longer rise in tandem with corporate revenue growth.

We are now reviewing vendors to advance implementation, which includes process automation and centralization of certain activities, shifting how work is delivered and staffed with a long-term objective to decouple expense from revenue growth.
-- Tracy Farr, Chief Financial Officer

Looking Ahead

Client demand remains active despite high interest rates. Lazard leverages its global reach and $54 billion in gross inflows to gain market share while watching operational discipline.

Conditions remain quite favorable for client activity despite the rise in interest rates and ongoing global uncertainty.
-- Peter Orszag, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman

With corporate workflow modernizations underway, leadership is focused on driving higher operating margins across all global platforms.

Overall, we are confident in our outlook for long-term growth, and we are encouraged by the strong levels of client activity and the progress we are seeing across the firm, as highlighted in this quarter's results.
-- Tracy Farr, Chief Financial Officer
