Precision Drilling (TSX:PD) Stock Can Q3 Earnings Sustain Its Rally

Explore stocks on Coinbase

Precision Drilling entered this Q3 2026 release with its stock already on a tear, up sharply over the past month and closing at CA$147.65 on October 28. The headline this quarter is clear: revenue reached about CA$532m and net income landed at roughly CA$21m, a clean swing back into profit for a contractor that has been grinding through loss making periods on a trailing basis. The share price strength looks like investors rushing to price in that earnings comeback, while the underlying numbers still tell a story of a business working through a longer repair job.

Evaluating Precision Drilling's Tech and Buyback Milestones

For the bullish view on Precision Drilling to hold, technology needs to move from showcase to revenue and cash flow engine.

"Alpha digital tools, robotics and real time data systems that have already supported record low reported mechanical downtime in Canada and the U.S. create room for Precision Drilling to pursue a service model in which uptime and well performance become explicit pricing levers, with potential upside for net margins as contracts roll."

Q3 hints at that shift but does not fully prove it. North American rigs and day rates helped lift revenue 15% and adjusted EBITDA to CA$125m, while management highlighted Alpha and Clarity in multi rig contracts and improving U.S. margin guidance as reactivation costs roll off. The model is progressing, not yet fully monetised.

Precision Drilling: Margin Fears Not Fully Put To Bed

Bearish investors worry that Precision Drilling's tech pitch cannot keep up with rising costs and capital needs.

"Although Precision Drilling highlights record low mechanical downtime and efficiency gains from its digital platform and robotics, the sharp drop in U.S. daily operating margins from US$9,291 in Q1 2026 to US$6,212 in Q2 2026 suggests that higher reactivation and operating costs can quickly outstrip these benefits."

Q3 shows partial relief but not a clean escape. U.S. daily margins improved to US$7,653 year over year guidance points to a stronger Q4, yet they still sit below the prior year. Reactivation drag and higher capex of C$275 to C$285 million keep the burden on cash generation, so the concern around cost pressure remains only partly answered.

Hunt For Quiet Earnings Setups

Precision Drilling just showed how a noisy earnings swing can reshape expectations in a hurry. The real opportunity is finding stocks that could be undervalued before the market closes that gap.

  • Company 1 - 46% below our estimate - uses new prime mall locations and a scaled online channel to convert trend hits into higher margin full price sell through.

  • Company 2 - 48% below our estimate - shifts mine plans toward higher grade ore and expanding low cost output to reshape unit economics across its portfolio.

  • Company 3 - 36% below our estimate - folds recent design consultancies into a shared digital and AI toolkit that raises fee based margins on long duration infrastructure programs.

That is three of the list. See all 4 potentially undervalued companies →
