Ryanair Holdings entered this earnings day with a flat near term share profile and a price of €23.90 that hardly reflected much excitement after a muted 30 day return. Then Q2 FY27 landed with hard numbers. Revenue came in at €5,697.9m and basic earnings per share hit €1.55, solid profitability for a European low cost carrier wrestling with higher fuel and softer summer fares.
The stock reaction told one story. The income statement told another. Your job is to decide which one really fits the long running Ryanair thesis.

Ryanair Bull Case: Cost Engine Holds Under Fuel Shock
Optimists argue that Ryanair's fleet and in house build out should hard wire a lasting cost edge rather than just a good year or two.
"If Ryanair successfully takes delivery of all 210 Gamechanger aircraft by early 2026 and then starts its eight to ten year MAX 10 program from 2027, the resulting 20% more seats and 20% less fuel burn per flight should structurally reduce unit costs and emissions."
H1 FY27 profit fell 15% even as traffic rose 6%. This shows fuel pain is real, yet non fuel discipline still shows through in strong cash, buybacks and stable high traffic.
Bear Case: Softer Fares And Fuel Risk Biting Now
The worry is that Ryanair's advantages are not enough when fares soften and fuel spikes at the same time.
"Industry disruption and external shocks: Fuel-price spikes, air-traffic control failures, geopolitical events or adverse policy changes (e.g., new taxes) could depress demand or increase costs and weaken near-term profitability."
This is exactly visible already. Unhedged jet fuel roughly doubled, fares in peak summer fell 4% and H1 profit declined 15%. Traffic guidance is trimmed to 214m passengers and FY28 profit guidance is withheld, so the risk scenario is clearly present in these results.
