What Samsung SDI Bulls Got Right Before A 107% Jump

If you had bought Samsung SDI in October 2025, the decision would look very different after the latest swing in Asian tech. Investors who held Samsung SDI over the past year are up 107.4%, including dividends. That jump now sits alongside a sharp pullback during an Asia tech rout and fresh concern about funding for AI infrastructure. So what exactly were early buyers weighing when bullish and bearish analyst targets were so far apart?

Samsung SDI is not the only name tied to this theme. Zero in on 16 nuclear energy infrastructure stocks and compare how each one is priced.

The Argument You Would Have Been Weighing On Samsung SDI

The shares cost ₩236,000 at the start of the period, and anyone looking at Samsung SDI then had to choose between two very different stories about what came next.

On the bullish side, one camp saw a Fair Value of ₩345,480.17. This was effectively the price implied if premium battery demand and energy storage growth played out as they expected, helped by prismatic expansion in the U.S. and early wins for high margin cylindrical cells.

The bearish view pointed to a Fair Value of ₩135,000, based on fears that cheaper chemistries like LFP and tougher tariffs would squeeze pricing power and keep earnings volatile despite new capacity.

What The Results Changed For The Samsung SDI Debate

The key update for Samsung SDI was the Q2 2026 report. Revenue reached ₩3,768,808.12m and net income moved from a loss of ₩161,287.50m in Q2 2025 to a profit of ₩335,931.99m, lifting net margin from -5.1% to 8.9%. That shift toward profitability backed the optimistic story, even as the Asia tech rout and AI funding worries kept the cautious case alive.

The lesson here is simple. When a battery stock is sold on a margin recovery story, track the reported net margin and absolute profit, and then judge whether those numbers actually start to resemble the upbeat scenario you were originally asked to believe.

What Samsung SDI's Price Now Asks You To Believe

Samsung SDI now trades at ₩530,000, and the selected Narrative's Fair Value sits below that level. This signals a view that the current quote already builds in demanding assumptions about future returns on heavy battery spending.

The Narrative focuses less on industry threats and more on whether loss-making battery operations and large ongoing CapEx will be supported by energy storage and European EV profits. A buyer today is effectively assuming that future ESS cash flows comfortably cover those investment needs. This raises the question of how that assumption aligns with the risks the Narrative sets out for prolonged EV pressure and funding demands.

"Although Samsung SDI links AI data center growth to strong ESS and UPS demand, the 2025 operating loss of KRW 1.9 trillion on KRW 12.4 trillion of battery revenue shows that even a supportive AI related order book has not yet covered the cost base. This could limit future operating margin recovery if mix and pricing do not shift more than expected."

Before The Next Story Makes Headlines

You may be late to this rally, but that does not have to mean arriving late to every opportunity. Start with companies whose prices leave room for a different view of their future. Here are three trading below our estimates.

  • Company 1 - 43% below our estimate - uses new stores, higher priced product and faster inventory turns to lift profitability.

  • Company 2 - 23% below our estimate - shifts from low margin shipbuilding to higher margin underwater technology and digital systems integration.

  • Company 3 - 41% below our estimate - channels heavier spend on AI and payments into higher fee income from focused deposit niches.

That is three of the list. See all 189 potentially undervalued companies →
