The Sweden-based automaker, owned by China's Geely, said fully electric vehicle sales grew 27% and made up 34% of total sales during the period. Plug-in hybrid sales fell 30%, accounting for 20% of volumes. Combined electrified models represented 55% of all cars sold.

The company cited difficult market conditions in China, where increased competition from local manufacturers and a weak macroeconomic environment continued to affect demand. "In China, we are adapting to lower demand and focusing on stabilising the business rather than chasing volumes," said Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars.

In the United States, low consumer sentiment and the removal of incentives on electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles hurt sales.

European markets, meanwhile, showed continued movement toward electrification, driving demand for Volvo's fully electric models. "In Europe, underlying demand for our fully electric cars remains strong, particularly for the EX60, with orders already exceeding 50,000 cars. Deliveries are currently impacted by the ongoing production ramp-up, but we are steadily improving built volumes."
