Why Is Penguin Solutions (PENG) Stock Soaring Today

What Happened?

Shares of semiconductor maker Penguin Solutions (NASDAQ:PENG) jumped 5.9% in the pre-market session after BofA Securities initiated coverage on the stock with a Buy rating and a $100 price target.

BofA Securities analyst Wamsi Mohan established above-Street fiscal 2028 projections of $2.87 billion in revenue and $5.43 in earnings per share, compared to consensus estimates of $2.66 billion and $5.04, per research covered by StreetInsider. Mohan noted that AI-driven operations represent 78% of sales, emphasizing that a memory cycle extending through 2028 will support expanding margins as agentic workloads scale. In research detailed by StreetInsider, Mohan pointed to Penguin's Compute Express Link products and MemoryAI cache servers, which expanded deployment at a Tier-1 financial institution, for lowering time-to-first-token inference latency.

The pre-market gain also built on momentum from Penguin's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report earlier in the week, where enterprise and neocloud AI demand accelerated. For AI infrastructure integrators, agentic models require larger context windows that rapidly exhaust on-chip GPU memory, turning memory capacity and cluster orchestration into the primary latency bottleneck. As enterprise inference scales, providers that pool memory alongside accelerator clusters capture structural spending well beyond initial compute deployment.

After the initial pop, the shares cooled down to $71.83, up 0.3% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Penguin Solutions's shares are extremely volatile and have had 65 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 2 days ago when the stock gained 3.7% on the news that the company announced third-quarter 2026 financial results and raised its fiscal 2027 outlook beyond its preliminary growth view.

According to the company's press release, fourth-quarter net sales climbed 68% year over year to $567 million vs analyst estimates of $521 million (67.7% year-on-year growth, 8.8% beat). Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share increased to $1.00 vs analyst estimates of $0.77 (29.5% beat). The company further raised its full-year fiscal 2027 forecast beyond its preliminary growth view, with adjusted EPS guidance clocking in at 4.45 at the midpoint, beating analyst estimates by 31.8%.On the earnings call, President and CEO Kash Shaikh stated that AI-driven businesses, comprising non-hyperscale AI infrastructure and integrated memory, grew 141% year over year to represent 78% of net sales. Shaikh noted that fourth-quarter bookings outpaced revenue, allowing Penguin to enter fiscal 2027 with a record company backlog driven by accelerating demand from neocloud customers.

Penguin Solutions is up 254% since the beginning of the year, but at $71.83 per share, it is still trading 11.7% below its 52-week high of $81.39 from July 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Penguin Solutions's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $3,305.

ONE MORE THING: The $21 AI Application Stock Wall Street Forgot. While Wall Street obsesses over who's building AI, one company is already using it to print money. And nobody's paying attention.

AI chip stocks trade at ridiculous valuations. This company processes a trillion consumer signals monthly using AI and trades at a third of the price. The gap won't last. The institutions will figure it out. You need to see this first. Read the FREE Report Before They Notice .
