Why Is Robinhood (HOOD) Stock Rocketing Higher Today

What Happened?

Shares of financial services company Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) jumped 7.9% in the afternoon session after crypto strength and retail trading activity continued to lift digital-asset brokerages following Bitcoin's rebound earlier in the week. According to TipRanks, the move gained traction as Bitcoin climbed above $77,000, lifting volumes and operational leverage for retail brokerages.

Wall Street stayed constructive, with Goldman Sachs and Needham both carrying $123 price targets after recent raises. Robinhood has also kept expanding its product set, including closed-end funds that give retail investors access to private companies, with Robinhood Ventures Fund II sized at up to about $255.5 million. Lingering optimism around clearer rules for crypto and tokenized securities has helped keep the bid alive beyond the initial catalyst.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Robinhood's shares are extremely volatile and have had 49 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 22 days ago when the stock gained 5.3% on the news that the company secured regulatory approval to offer cryptocurrency services in the United Kingdom and reported strong second-quarter financial results. Robinhood received authorization from the U.K.'s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), a move that positions it for international expansion.

This news followed a strong financial report for the second quarter of 2026, where revenue jumped 32.25% year-over-year to $1.3 billion, surpassing analyst estimates. The growth was largely fueled by a tenfold surge in revenues from prediction markets. The company's earnings per share of $0.62 also beat expectations. Adding to the positive developments, Robinhood announced a second ventures fund, Robinhood Ventures Fund II (RVII), which is expected to IPO in mid-August.

Robinhood is down 3.1% since the beginning of the year, and at $111.62 per share, it is trading 26.8% below its 52-week high of $152.46 from October 2025. Despite the year-to-date decline, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Robinhood's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $2,279.
