While Bitcoin may have just blasted to a new all-time high of $126,198.07 on Oct. 7, XRP traders are still looking to break out the champagne.
Crypto analyst Lark Davis stated that "XRP cannot catch a break!". The asset "keeps getting smashed down"because XRP is consistently unable to break out of its long-term descending resistance, says Davis.
Based on his chart, anything above the $4 is now going to be critical. Otherwise, traders will be forced to hold at $2.94, i.e, the 20-day EMA. At press time, XRP was trading at $2.98, even as it has been up nearly 5% over the last week.
XRP retail fear surges
According to blockchain analytics firm Santiment, XRP is currently experiencing the highest level of retail FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) it has had in the past six months — similar to when President Trump made tariff announcements earlier in the year.

Ironically, there have been more bearish comments than bullish comments on two of the past three days, which Santiment states has historically been a reliable buy signal, as "Markets move opposite to small trader expectations."
XRP breakout
However, one analyst is hopeful. A trader, EGRAG CRYPTO, offers an optimistic view that XRP is close to breaking out from a traditional ascending triangle pattern. He shares historical breakout range expectations.
Here are the important dates:
-
70% Rule: The breakout should explore around Sept. 22, 2025
-
80% Rule: The window of significant attention lands on Oct. 28, 2025
-
90% Rule: Final date comes close to Dec. 6, 2025
He states that most of the time, with this pattern, the breakouts happen between the 70-80% pattern formation stage, and thus, he suggests that October might be the month to decide.
XRP liquidations hint at a tug-of-war
XRP has seen $4.92 million in liquidations in the last 24 hours, according to CoinGlass, but the positioning is more reflective of caution than confidence. Just $3.57 million longs were liquidated, and shorts were liquidated at $1.35 million.
Looking at a shorter timeframe:
-
$413K was liquidated in the last 4 hours with shorts ($327K) making up a larger portion liquidated, implying that late bears were caught fading dips.
-
But in the last 1 hour, liquidations stand to longs of nearly $58,000 while XRP struggled to reclaim the $3.00.
