Cardano founder calls Trump a 'political martyr'

On Sep. 29, Charles Hoskinson, founder of the Cardano blockchain and co-founder of Ethereum, waded into U.S. politics on X, criticizing what he described as double standards in how Democrats and Republicans are treated under the law.

In his post, Hoskinson argued that the Biden administration went after Donald Trump and his allies under the banner of "justice and no one is above the law," but that Trump's own targeting of Democrats is now dismissed as "political persecution."

"Until people come clean on double standards, this sh*t isn't going to stop,"Hoskinson wrote. "The left seems utterly unwilling to come to terms with the basic reality that they created Trump 2."

Hoskinson added that pardoning Trump in 2021 could have prevented his resurgence:

"Had Biden simply pardoned Trump in 2021, he wouldn't be president right now. He would have faded away and we would have reset. Instead, we got dozens of politically motivated bullshit cases, Trump became a political Martyr with strong justification to reciprocate."

Hoskinson went further, predicting that if Trump wins re-election, he will shield his allies:

"No, the left isn't going to get a shot at Trump's people. He will blanket pardon his whole admin,"he wrote, linking to a New York Times article. The article examines Trump's growing reliance on executive power and its potential implications for the future.

The NYT report  states that Trump's drive to punish his opponents and expand the his power is setting a poor example.

The report noted that Trump's drive to punish opponents and expand presidential authority sets a troubling precedent. It warned that future Democratic presidents could use the same tactics, creating a cycle of political revenge more typical in authoritarian regimes. Conservative figures such as Ted Cruz and Tucker Carlson have also raised concerns that Trump's actions could backfire, threatening free speech and strengthening executive overreach.
