An early Ethereum investor with substantial ETH holdings has stirred for the first time in eight years, according to cryptocurrency smart money tracker Lookonchain.

Lookonchain reported last week that an Ethereum initial coin offering participant sent 150,000 ETH, worth $645 million, to a new wallet for staking. The investor originally received 1 million ETH across three wallets for $310,000 during the ICO and had not conducted any transactions in the past eight years, the platform said. Today, that sum is worth $4.3 billion.

While the investor has since sold the majority of their holdings, they still possess 255,000 ETH, worth nearly $1.1 billion, including the recently staked 150,000 ETH, according to Lookonchain. The remaining 105,000 ETH is held across two wallets, one holds 50,000 ETH and the other holds 55,000 ETH.

Staking enables Proof-of-Stake blockchain participants to earn rewards by supporting the security and operation of the network. It generally requires locking a set amount of cryptocurrency to serve as a validator, verifying transactions and adding blocks to the chain.

The Ethereum ICO participant is at least the sixth such ETH investor to make a move over the past month, according to Lookonchain. Unlike this investor, however, the others sold some of their asset holdings for profits as ETH hit a new price record of $4,900 in August.

The Ethereum ICO participant's decision to stake their ETH, despite considerable gains, signals confidence in the asset's future growth.

The move comes as the cryptocurrency community has seen a surge in bullish ETH price forecasts over the past few weeks. The outlook is driven by optimism over the potential implications of U.S. crypto regulations, such as the GENIUS Act , for the network.

Several analysts suggest these regulations will open the door for Wall Street and real-world assets to move on-chain. They argue ETH is best positioned for this shift, given its appeal to institutional players and its dominance in the stablecoin and tokenization sectors.

ETH is currently trading near $4,300, down 12% from its new price record amid broader market uncertainty. But several analysts remain confident that the asset could still surpass the $5,000 price mark this year. FundstratHead of Technical Strategy Mark Newton, for example, has suggested that ETH could trade as high as $5,500 this month and as high as $9,000 in January. Meanwhile, in the long term, Fundstrat has suggested that Ethereum could trade as high as $250,000, up 5,700% from current price levels.
