Legendary analyst warns of 80% Bitcoin ‘decay’

Trade BTC on Coinbase

Legendary trader and analyst Peter Brandt —well-known for correctly predicting past moves in the S&P 500 benchmark—has raised another sound alarm and this time he has taken Bitcoin (BTC) to the cleaners.

The veteran trader addresses Bitcoin investors in an X post on Dec. 14 in which he shared a long-term price chart and raised four key points.

The chart shows Bitcoin's price since 2010 and the pink curves highlight Bitcoin's major bull runs.

Each bull run resembles a parabola in which the asset's price rises slowly, then rises very fast, peaks, and then breaks down to enter a correction zone.

Brandt also shared four points in his blunt post.

First, bull cycles have experienced "exponential decay,"he warned the Bitcoin investors. It means Bitcoin still rises in bull markets but each cycle is less extreme than the previous.

Two, Bitcoin's bull cycles have "undergone parabolic advances,"he underlined. It means the asset's price goes upward far more quickly, but then it eventually breaks down quickly as well.

Three, he argued that the violation of previous parabolas has all declined less than 80%. What it means is that BTC, when it fell from its parabolic peak in previous cases, declined less than 80%.

Last, he concluded that the current Bitcoin parabolic advance has been "violated."

As BTC has begun to fall from its recent parabolic advance, it could fall as low as $25,240, Brandt predicted.

Mike McGlone, senior commodity strategist at Bloomberg Intelligence, is even more bearish on Bitcoin.

In a recent LinkedIn post , he said the rally north of $100,000 may have sparked a cycle back toward $10,000 in 2026.

"Wealth-creation reversion will likely drive the next recession, led by a collapse in highly speculative, unlimited-supply digital assets — most of which track nothing."

At the time of writing, Bitcoin was exchanging hands at $86,428.28, down 2.82% in a day.
