Popular Restaurant Chain Suddenly Closes Dozens of Locations originally appeared on Parade .

Months after it was revealed that the company had filed for bankruptcy, Hooters has made what it called the "difficult decision" to suddenly shut down dozens of stores across several states.

The news is somewhat of a surprise as the legendary wing spot didn't explicitly mention its plan to shutter stores when it initially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections at the end of March. However, it did hint at potential closures when it said it would be "evaluating the Company's operations footprint."

At the time, Hooters of America's chief executive officer Sal Melillisaid the bankruptcy filing was "an important milestone in our efforts to reinforce Hooters' financial foundation and continue delivering the guest-obsessed hospitality experience and delicious food our customers and communities have come to expect."

Melilli added that the company had plans to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy in "approximately 90-120 days."

Now, it appears part of the plan for Hooters to re-emerge in stronger financial standing included suddenly shuttering some 30 company-owned stores, USA Today reported on Wednesday evening.

"After careful consideration of what is needed to best position our company for the future, Hooters made the difficult decision to close certain Company-owned locations, effective June 4, 2025," the company said in a statement shared with Parade . "Importantly, Hooters is here to stay, and by optimizing our business in support of our long-term goals, Hooters will be well-positioned to continue our iconic legacy under a pure franchise business model."

"We are committed to supporting our impacted team members throughout this process and are incredibly grateful to our valued customers for their loyalty and dedication to the Hooters brand," the statement concluded.

Of the 305 domestic Hooters locations, about 151 are company-owned and another 154 are operated by franchisees. According to Google Business listings, several reports and prerecorded messages, the following locations are confirmed to no longer be in operation:

• Charlotte, North Carolina – South Boulevard

• Columbia, South Carolina

• Rock Hill, South Carolina
