Evernorth, backed by digital payments giant Ripple, announced on Oct. 20 that it will list on the Nasdaq through a merger with blank-check firm Armada Acquisition Corp II (NASDAQ: AACI ). The company aims to become the world's first publicly traded XRP treasury, raising over $1 billion to acquire the token tied to Ripple, the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
The move signals that major players see an institutional opportunity in XRP, even as skeptics caution against tying equity markets too closely to crypto volatility. Evernorth plans to focus exclusively on accumulating XRP ahead of its planned merger, which is expected to close in early 2026..

Why This Deal Matters for XRP Holders
The timing of Evernorth's public market debut isn't coincidental. The announcement comes months after the Securities and Exchange Commission ended a high-profile lawsuit accusing Ripple of selling unregistered securities to institutional investors. With that legal cloud lifted and a crypto-friendly Trump administration in office, Ripple is betting big on scaling institutional adoption of XRP in traditional capital markets.
"We will look at acquisition opportunities," Evernorth CEO Asheesh Birla, a former Ripple executive, told Reuters. Birla added that Evernorth will be building out an investment team and stepping down from Ripple's board as he joins Evernorth full-time.
The institutional backing is substantial. Japanese financial services firm SBI is providing $200 million of the raise in exchange for equity, while Ripple co-founder Chris Larsenand digital asset firms Pantera Capitaland Krakenhave also participated in the funding round.

The Growing Concern About Crypto-Equity Crossover Risk
However, not everyone views the proliferation of publicly traded crypto treasury companies as a positive development. As scores of companies continue to wrap crypto assets into equity, concerns are mounting over the spillover impact of a correction in the equities markets.
The risks became painfully clear earlier this month when crypto assets suffered their largest selloff ever after President Donald Trumpescalated his trade war with China. When crypto crashes, companies holding significant amounts of digital assets on their balance sheets can see their stock prices plummet alongside token values—potentially amplifying losses for investors who thought they were simply buying equity.
"I lost track around how many [asset holding plays] there are around Ethereum," Birla told Reuters, highlighting just how crowded this strategy has become across the crypto landscape.

What Sets Evernorth Apart in a Crowded Field
Despite the competition, Evernorth believes its XRP focus and institutional backing give it a unique positioning. The deal will create the largest XRP publicly traded treasury company, giving investors direct exposure to XRP's price movements through traditional equity markets without needing to navigate crypto exchanges or wallet management.
For XRP holders, Evernorth's arrival as a major institutional buyer could provide sustained demand that helps stabilize the token's notoriously volatile price swings. For skeptics, it represents yet another example of crypto-equity convergence that could amplify systemic risks if digital asset markets experience another major correction.
Investors will soon have the chance to decide for themselves whether Evernorth's billion-dollar bet on XRP represents the future of institutional crypto adoption—or just another speculative play wrapped in corporate packaging.
