Sharplink CEO Joseph Chalom says company aims to become Wall Street’s gateway to Ethereum staking

Joseph Chalom, chief executive officer of Sharplink Gaming (NASDAQ: SHAR), outlined the company's mission as a publicly traded digital asset Treasury vehicle designed to give investors direct exposure to Ethereum's staking economy.

Sharplink disclosed that the company launched its Ethereum-focused treasury strategy in June.

Speaking on the company's approach, Chalom described Sharplink's model as "very, very simple."

The company raises capital, collects Ether (ETH), and then stakes its holdings to secure transactions on the Ethereum blockchain. "In return, you get yield back, which is called staking yield,"Chalom stated, explaining that current rates sit at about 3%.

Founded in 2021, Sharplink Gaming (NASDAQ: SHAR) began as a sports betting and gaming technology provider before pivoting toward digital asset treasury management. The company now focuses on building an Ethereum-based staking treasury, offering investors institutional access to ETH yield. Under CEO Joseph Chalom, Sharplink is positioning itself as the public-market gateway to Ethereum's staking economy.

What is staking?

Staking is a process used by many blockchains, like Ethereum to keep the network secure and running smoothly.

Here's how it works:

  • When you stake your crypto (for example, ETH), you lock it up to help validate transactions on the blockchain.

  • In return, you earn rewards, typically new tokens, similar to earning interest on money in a savings account.

  • This reward is called staking yield, and it usually ranges from 2–5% per year, depending on the network and conditions.

However, staking comes with risks. If the validator (the system that helps process transactions) goes offline or breaks the rules, part of the staked funds can be slashed or lost.

In Sharplink's case, the company stakes Ethereum to earn passive yield for its shareholders, turning the blockchain's security mechanism into a steady income stream.

Ethereum vs. Bitcoin

When an investor buys stock in Sharplink, Chalom explained, they will be able to access three key advantages:

  • Capital appreciation when Ether's price rises.

  • Staking yield earned from securing the Ethereum network.

  • ETH-denominated revenues generated as the firm develops new businesses.

"This is essentially a proxy to get exposure to ETH,"Chalom said, similar to how MicroStrategy (now Strategy) is often thought to be a proxy to get exposure to Bitcoin. " Think of it as owning a single equity listed on NASDAQ to get all three exposures."

Chalom made a comparison between Sharplink's model and MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. MicroStrategy has built its strategy by creating fiat capital to buy and accumulate Bitcoin, while Sharlipnk's model is based on Ether.

Ethereum has a distinct model from Bitcoin, says Chalom, as it's considered a staked asset from which Sharplink can derive a 2-3% annual yield that accrues to the shareholder.

"We're doing it slightly differently. Bitcoin is not a staked asset. With ETH, you can get the 2–3% yield, which accrues to the company for the benefit of the shareholder."

Building the Ethereum treasury model

Chalom framed Sharplink as an innovator of the Ethereum Treasury model, with the goal of bootstrapping the network - while also generating returns to shareholders.

"We're here to do really positive, benevolent things for the Ethereum ecosystem," he says, presenting the company as an active financial and strategic player in the infrastructure that is foundational to Web3.
