We Think Singular Health Group (ASX:SHG) Can Easily Afford To Drive Business Growth

We can readily understand why investors are attracted to unprofitable companies. Nonetheless, only a fool would ignore the risk that a loss making company burns through its cash too quickly.

In light of its strong share price run, we think now is a good time to investigate how risky Singular Health Group's cash burn is. In this article, we define cash burn as its annual (negative) free cash flow, which is the amount of money a company spends each year to fund its growth. First, we'll determine its cash runway by comparing its cash burn with its cash reserves.

How Is Singular Health Group's Cash Burn Changing Over Time?

Whilst it's great to see that Singular Health Group has already begun generating revenue from operations, last year it only produced AU$558k, so we don't think it is generating significant revenue, at this point. As a result, we think it's a bit early to focus on the revenue growth, so we'll limit ourselves to looking at how the cash burn is changing over time. Even though it has reduced its cash burn recently, shareholders should still consider how easy it would be for Singular Health Group to raise more cash in the future. Companies can raise capital through either debt or equity. One of the main advantages held by publicly listed companies is that they can sell shares to investors to raise cash and fund growth. We can compare a company's cash burn to its market capitalisation to get a sense for how many new shares a company would have to issue to fund one year's operations.
