Like most families, my family has also considered gold as an ever-dependable asset that can be relied upon during times of financial distress.

Over the past few months, gold has been hitting new record highs every few days amid the U.S. dollar's crash.

Last I checked, the precious metal hit a new all-time high (ATH) price of $5,110.50 per ounce on Jan. 26. In fact, the asset has appreciated by more than 50% in value over the last six months.

During the same period, Bitcoin (BTC), called "digital gold" among Bitcoin maximalists, has lost 25% of its value. The total crypto market cap has similarly declined by roughly 25% during the period.
