‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ author confesses selling gold and silver

When I was in my early twenties, struggling through college and trying to make sense of money in a way that wasn't just about getting a job and paying bills, a professor handed me a reading list. One book stood out immediately: Rich Dad Poor Dad .

Crypto wasn't a word anyone used seriously. What Robert Kiyosaki's book offered wasn't an investment strategy in the modern sense.

It was a challenge to how we think about money itself. Why do some people get richer while others work harder and fall behind? Why does saving feel like running in place? Why does the system reward leverage, assets and ownership, not effort?

What's striking, looking back now, is that Rich Dad Poor Dad wasn't obsessed with price charts or timing markets. It wasn't even really about gold in the way people talk about it today. It was about assets versus liabilities. About holding things that work for you as currencies quietly lose value over time.

Rich Dad Poor Dad's confessesion

Which is why a resurfaced video of Kiyosaki where he confesses to selling gold and silver to buy Bitcoin, seems shocking.

In a video published on his YouTube channel on Jan. 25, 2025 Kiyosaki says, "Since 1964, I've been saving silver. So right now, I'm trading my silver to buy more Bitcoin because the silver I was buying was at 10 cents an ounce; today, it's $30 an ounce."

He sharply criticizes the ballooning U.S. federal debt, money printing without apparent restraint, and devaluation of the U.S. dollar over the years in the video. He also mentions how gold and silver reached new highs, and now, he is converting his precious metal holdings to Bitcoin (BTC).

Exactly a year after the video got published, gold's price has appreciated by 77% to hit $4,988.56 per oz and silver's price has appreciated by 213% to hit $103.3 per oz.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin's price has fallen 17% in a year to hit $86,393.06.

As the old video resurfaced amid rising metal prices and declining BTC price, Kiyosaki faced criticism for failing to take advantage of gold's price appreciation and instead opting for the cryptocurrency.

Kiyosaki recently said that given the soaring federal debt and sinking U.S. dollar, the prices of gold, silver, Bitcoin, and Ethereum (ETH) don't really matter.

The real story is the devaluation of the dollar, not market volatility, he argued, and added that "incompetent, highly educated" PhDs running the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, and the U.S. government are ruining the economy.

Kiyosaki said he just keeps buying the precious metals, BTC, and ETH because he believes as the dollar loses value, these assets will soar in value.
