Presque Isle Downs and Casino could see new ownership as its parent company revealed the casino is one of nine properties Churchill Downs Incorporated may consider selling.

A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission states that these gaming properties are ones they are "exploring various options to sell." Churchill Downs said in their earnings call that they plan to concentrate on their assets with stronger cash flow.

Whether ownership changes or not, county leaders and community organizations said they hope to see the casino continue to support the region the way it has for years.

"We just do know that that property itself, whatever it is, at least right now generates jobs, generates tourism, generates economic impact and growth for the area," said John Stehlin, the Erie Countywide Engagement Officer.

"It's really a blessing to have a casino in our backyard; as a result, our community gets local share gaming revenue, those funds come in, half of them go to Erie County government," said Perry Wood, the Executive Director of Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority. "ECGRA gets the other half, and we spend it on economic and community development projects."

Wood said that revenue comes to nearly $6 million a year, benefiting local nonprofits, small businesses, and other major community projects.

"They've contributed $190 million to Erie County since it's been open," said Jack Lee, a Summit Township Supervisor. "It's always been productive, so I'm quite sure another casino would buy them out, and I hope they would, but I think Summit Township is very fortunate."

While the question of the casino's future remains up in the air, ECGRA does not expect setbacks in that revenue if a sale is made.

"It was sold in 2019 to Churchill Downs; we saw no interruption in local share gaming revenue during that period of time, so we're anticipating we're not gonna have any bumps in the road this time either," said Wood.

Churchill Downs said there is no timeline yet on a potential sale.
