Investing.com-- Japan's Advantest Corp (TYO:6857) raised its full-year earnings forecast on Wednesday after reporting a more than doubling of first-half net profit, as surging investment in artificial intelligence boosted demand for semiconductor testing equipment.
Net profit rose 117% to 368.1 billion yen ($2.33 billion) in the six months ended September, while revenue climbed 60.5% to 845.2 billion yen.
The company attributed the strong performance to rising production volumes and growing complexity of AI-related high-performance chips, alongside increased investment in data centres. A weaker yen also supported results, while financial income included valuation gains on strategic investments.
Advantest raised its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027, projecting revenue of 1.863 trillion yen, up from its previous estimate of 1.714 trillion yen.
It now expects operating profit of 967 billion yen, compared with 846 billion yen previously, and net profit of 741.5 billion yen, against an earlier forecast of 660 billion yen.
The company expects the semiconductor market to grow strongly in 2026, driven by AI applications, and sees the semiconductor tester market reaching a record high as inference AI expands.
Advantest said it would accelerate production capacity expansion to meet demand, while expecting the direct impact of Middle East tensions on earnings to remain limited despite higher logistics costs.
