Gelion PLC (AIM:GELN, OTC:GELNF, FRA:X0S) told investors it has secured an evaluation agreement with a top-15 global automotive manufacturer, widening industry testing of its next-generation sulfur cathode technology for electric vehicle batteries.

Under the material transfer agreement, the unnamed OEM will assess Gelion's Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur (NES) platform across both liquid and solid electrolyte cell configurations.

Gelion will supply sulfur-based cathode active material, coated cathodes and liquid electrolyte for testing involving lithium-metal and graphitic anodes, covering potential luxury and mass-market EV applications.

The agreement expands the automotive industry's assessment of NES, which Gelion is developing as a potential drop-in cathode material capable of replacing critical-mineral cathodes without requiring major retooling of existing battery manufacturing lines.

Chief executive Matt Wood said Gelion is now working with several major global automotive OEMs, with the latest agreement representing another step towards commercial revenues from funded programmes and, eventually, licensing and royalties.

"Our priority markets are commercial & defence drones, EVs and devices," Wood said.

"Today's announcement marks further progress towards the adoption of our technology and the generation of commercial revenues via funded programmes and eventually license and royalty revenue in the global EV market, alongside some of the industry's leading companies."
