Critical Resources targets more gold opportunity in Suriname

Critical Resources Ltd managing director Tim Wither talked with Proactive about the company's exclusive rights to acquire a 90% interest in the Greenstars Gold Project in Suriname, adding a second potential gold project to its emerging position in the country.

Wither said Greenstars covers around 35 square kilometres and, together with the previously announced project, could give Critical Resources interests across just under 200 square kilometres of granted mining rights, subject to completion of the transactions.

He highlighted Suriname's position within the Guiana Shield and its established gold mining industry, while noting that the region has seen comparatively limited modern systematic exploration. Greenstars is located around 35 kilometres from Zijin Mining's Rosebel gold operation.

Wither said historical and active small-scale alluvial gold workings provide Critical Resources with a practical starting point for exploration. "This really gives investors the first mover advantage," he said.

The existing workings expose parts of the weathering profile, which Wither said should allow exploration teams to begin mapping and sampling quickly. The company expects its initial work to include due diligence and first-pass sampling, followed potentially by auger work and trenching as it develops exploration targets.

Wither said the strategy would follow a conventional exploration pathway, with more advanced work dependent on results generated during the initial programs.

He also highlighted the potential significance of Critical Resources providing ASX investors with direct exposure to gold exploration in Suriname as the company builds its position in the country.

This really matters because it shows there's active gold in the gold in the active system. Uh it gives us a practical starting point.

00:13 Jonathan

Critical Resources has secured exclusive rights to acquire 90% interest in the Greenstars Gold project. With me to discuss the acquisition is managing director, Tim Wither. Tim, good to see you.

00:26 Tim Wither

Yeah, thanks, Jonathan.

00:28 Jonathan

So Tim, let's dive in. Um, talk us through this potential acquisition and what the Greenstars Gold project could deliver for you.

00:36 Tim Wither

Yeah, so this is second um, gold project with signed exclusivity over in Surinam. Um, and this really gives investors the first mover advantage. And this will be a first, um, first ASX listed mineral explorer in Surinam.

00:54 Tim Wither

Um, so the last week we announced the exclusivity over the Gonini project. It's 164 square kilometers. And today, the Green star um project, um, which is 35, subject to completion of the DD, um, this would give CRR would hold around 90 would hold 90% of a project just under 200 square kilometers of granted mining rights.

01:21 Tim Wither

So, um, for those who who aren't aware, um, Surinam is in the northeast of South America, very proven, um, gold jurisdiction. Um, you have Zijin, uh Rosebel operations and Newmont. Both of those have been operating for nearly 20 years and a very underexplored area. Um, it shares the same greenstone setting as West Africa, West, um but has seen a much less modern exploration. Um and we've seen success in neighboring countries, uh in Guyana and French Guinea.

01:54 Tim Wither

uh and the today the Green star project um, which we which we announced, uh is only 35 kilometers from uh Zijin's Rosebel operations.

02:06 Jonathan

So, it's as you said as you said, it's underexplored. So there's a lot of prospect there. Um, talk us through, I guess, what the first work will or what the first works will be once the acquisition goes through.

02:21 Tim Wither

Yeah, so these are granted mining titles. Um they're not applications. So it give us um the ability to explore um explore and all the way through to mining obviously through subject to approvals. So both projects have had active alluvial workings. Um and the gold work today is by uh small scale miners um through the saprolite and weathered uh down to the weathered bedrock.

02:44 Tim Wither

Sara Creek where the Gonini project is been worked since uh 1876, so 150 years. So um this really matters because it shows there's active gold in the gold in the active system. Uh it gives us a practical starting point. So the work that's been done exposes the weathering profile and so teams can get straight into it and start mapping and uh sampling from day one.

03:04 Tim Wither

And the really the opportunity is the source. um as mentioned generations of mine. Uh but there's been very limited and no record of modern systematic exploration across both of these projects.

03:17 Jonathan

so plenty for investors to look forward to. Talk us through those, I guess those key milestones that are coming up.

03:24 Tim Wither

Yeah, so uh continuation of the DD and then first move uh first moving on to first pass sampling. uh and it will follow the very well worn path of uh doing exploration as we sort of see it at this stage um exploration pathway. Uh be moving into first pass sampling, uh auguring, trenching, and then hopefully, uh if we've generated enough targets moving into DD.

03:55 Tim Wither

I mean for for investors and for our shareholders, this really gives uh first mover uh opportunity into Surinam. Um it's been we've seen a significant amount of capital moving into Surinam. Um you've seen Goldfields investing into founders, uh La Mancha into Myata and Greenheart. Um so yeah, CRR really offers a real rare direct uh ASX exposure to investors.

04:22 Jonathan

Yeah, plenty to look forward to. Tim, we'll uh chat again as it unfolds, but uh thank you for your time today.

04:31 Tim Wither

Uh, thanks very much, Jonathan.
