Meridian Holdings reports revenue growth, targets US and Canadian gaming markets

Meridian Holdings Chairman and CFO William Scott joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's international gaming operations, recent financial performance and growth strategy, including plans to expand into additional regulated markets and pursue opportunities in North America.

Listed on Nasdaq, Meridian Holdings operates across more than 25 international markets, combining business-to-consumer (B2C) sports betting and online casino operations with business-to-business (B2B) gaming technology and content distribution. The company's diversified business model allows it to generate revenue from consumer-facing gaming brands while also supplying technology and gaming content to third-party operators.

Scott explained that the Meridian bet sports betting and casino business represents approximately 71% of company revenue, with operations spanning Europe, Africa and Latin America. Meridian Holdings also operates raffle businesses in the UK and Australia, alongside Mexplay, its sportsbook and casino business serving the Mexican market.

On the B2B side, the company operates GMAG, its online casino content distribution business, and Expanse, its proprietary game development studio. Through these operations, Meridian Holdings develops its own gaming content while distributing games and related products to third-party operators internationally, creating opportunities to expand its reach beyond its consumer-facing brands.

A key focus of the discussion was the company's expansion into regulated gaming markets, where regulatory approvals and licensing requirements can influence the pace and structure of growth. Scott highlighted Meridian Holdings' recent entry into Sweden through its Expanse business as an example of its efforts to broaden its international footprint and develop its B2B operations.

North America also represents a potential growth opportunity. Scott noted that Meridian Holdings currently generates no revenue from the United States but is exploring entry into Ontario, Canada, while pursuing US licensing opportunities for its B2B gaming content.

Turning to financial performance, Scott discussed the company's recently reported 16% revenue growth and the role geographic diversification plays in its business strategy. Operating across multiple regions gives Meridian Holdings exposure to a range of markets, although individual jurisdictions can present different competitive, regulatory and operating challenges.

Looking ahead over the next six to twelve months, Scott identified operational efficiency, entry into additional regulated markets and potential strategic acquisitions as important priorities. The company is focused on strengthening its existing operations while assessing opportunities to expand its international presence and broaden its revenue base.

anything from the US. Um, and you know, so what we're doing is we're looking at market market entry into Canada.

00:10 Steve

Very welcome back inside our proactive news room and joining me now is William Scott. He is the chairman and CFO of Meridian Holdings. And William, it's good to see you. How are you today?

00:18 William Scott

Good thanks. How are you doing? How's Vancouver?

00:21 Steve

It's doing very well. Thank you. And good to have you along. excited to learn a bit more about the company. Uh tell me a bit about Meridian Holdings.

00:28 William Scott

So, Marine Holdings, as you know, is listed on Nasdaq. Uh, we effectively, it was a reverse of Meridian into a company called Golden Mate Golden Matrix. Now we've rebranded it uh Marine Holdings because that's really what we are.

00:39 William Scott

So, um, the businesses has effectively about two or three parts. Um, two parts which is B2C and B2B. And I'll kind of first go on the B2C part is we've got Meridian Bet, which is about 71% of our revenue which we generate. and what we are is a a sports book and casino operator online. and also we have retail sports betting

00:55 William Scott

from the Balkans, so Europe, which is our largest market, through to Africa and Latam, all regulated. And we also then have a uh Raffles business which you also B to B to C and that's in the UK and one in Australia even though the the model in in Australia is slightly different.

01:13 William Scott

Um and we got Mex play in uh Mexico, obviously, which is also a sportsbook and casino. And then we also have um uh the B2B business, which is uh G which is a distributor of content, casino content to online operators around the world. and we also have our own studio expense, which

01:33 William Scott

you know, part of it is supplies us with content. It's our biggest we have content from everyone, everyone else out there, but we are a big buyer of our own content, but because we find our content very appealing, uh we I have we resell it to other parties around the world and be going through the process getting licenses in numerous markets. So that's in a nutshell is what the business is.

01:50 Steve

Yeah, and and you mentioned just how many markets you're in, over 25 international markets. Uh you have a a wide, a wide footprint right now, so to speak. And you just recently went in to Sweden as well. So you you've got a sounds like a growing business.

02:02 William Scott

Yeah, and uh Sweden is the B2B business, so that's expanse. It's going to resell its uh content into uh Sweden. Um so yes, we have a very wide footprint. Uh you know, but we we love regulation and you know, that's we follow where the good regulation is.

02:17 Steve

Yeah. Uh talk to me a little bit about um you mentioned you're on the Nasdaq, the US market. Is is that a uh North America a key one for the company because you mentioned a lot of your business comes from Europe right now.

02:27 William Scott

Yeah, so currently we don't get anything from the US. Um and you know, so what we're doing is we're looking at market market entry into Canada. So, uh into uh into kind of um Ontario as well as obviously looking at other states which are are are regulating. Uh the other part is is in the US is we are going to go from a B2B perspective in the first instance. So expanse we in the process of uh getting licenses in the US. Unfortunately it takes a while because there's a lot of paperwork to get through.

02:51 William Scott

but we're hoping to launch there, you know, kind of shortly, but that's all you know, that's all just waiting for uh the relevant authorities to give us uh the clearance to uh launch with some big partners there.

03:00 Steve

Yeah. I I I noticed your most recent financials, the company was up 16% in revenue. It sounds like and this is your Baileywick as the CFO. So it sounds like uh things are are progressing smoothly for the company. Is that a way to describe it?

03:13 William Scott

Yeah, it is and you know, it's not without, you know, kind of little hiccups which happen along the way. Brazil is obviously one which fortunately wasn't a significant part of our revenue because we go slow, we we invest slowly and carefully in jurisdictions which we go into. And that's there, you know, we don't know what's going to happen because there's elections going on in Brazil. Uh and you know, we'll get clarification, but you know, at the moment Lulu who's Lula who's the president has kind of banned uh gaming. It's going through the courts with all our competitors, but who knows what's going to happen once the courts kind of settle it.

03:39 William Scott

But yeah, so yes, you know, you know, the nice thing is we've got great geographic distribution. And so, you know, we kind of therefore kind of, you know, we uh we make sure that our risk is spread over a good number of jurisdictions.

03:52 Steve

Yeah, let's talk about the future. Tell me what's ahead for the next, you know, three to six months to a year out. What should people be looking for for Meridian holdings?

04:00 William Scott

So, you know, I think there's a couple of things. Firstly is that continue delivering, making sure we get the operational efficiencies and benefiting from the fact that we actually have our own technology, uh which where enables us to go into new markets and actually roll out new uh features to our our our players. So, the first thing is is operational efficiencies, keep on delivering. The other thing is continue the growth of the markets which you're in. um,

04:19 William Scott

growing into new regulated markets. Uh you know, we just mentioned we we're we're going, you know, we're going to Kenya and a couple of other jurisdictions and new jurisdictions and we're going to continue to grow into those those markets. The other thing which we'll be doing is looking at strategic acquisitions, which leverage what we've got. Um so that that's really what it is. It's it's all about growth. You know, we kind of see the market at, you know, it's it's a relatively new market and we think it's at the best years are ahead of us. So we are going to, you know, continue trying to grow our business,

04:47 William Scott

go to new jurisdictions and grow our whole business and continue just delivering. That's the key.

04:54 Steve

Absolutely. Well, William, thanks so much. really good to get a little snapshot of where the company's at and and where you're plan on going and uh congratulations on all the success so far and we look forward to our next conversation, okay?

05:04 William Scott

Thank you very much, Steve. Have a good day.

05:07 Steve

Yeah, you as well. There's William Scott is the chairman and chief financial officer for Meridian Holdings.
