What is up Cubs fans and welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs.
And the Chicago Cubs are giving veteran shortstop Dansby Swanson a mental reset.
Swanson, in arguably the worst stretch of his offensive career, will receive a few days off to kind of reset, regain his confidence at the plate because Swanson has been a liability in this Cubs lineup for most of the year.
He's batting under .200 and recently he has been not great at the plate to say the least.
He is batting under .140 since May 10th in this over 22 game sample size.
The Cubs are 6-16 during this stretch and Swanson hasn't provided much of a boost.
Yes, he did come through in a big way in Thursday's series finale against the Athletics, but Swanson has been one of the least un-clutch hitters on this Cubs team this year.
With runners in scoring position, he hasn't been great.
In high leverage spots, he hasn't been great.
In late and close games, Swanson has not been late.
So the Cubs will give him a few days off.
He's not in the lineup on Saturday.
He likely won't be in the lineup on Sunday and after Monday's off day, they'll kind of see where he's at and he could be back in the lineup on Tuesday to start the series against the Rockies.
But Swanson is going to need this little mental reset because he has been, he has been awful at the plate to say the least and he's, he had a ma- he's had a major problem this year with off-speed pitches, splitters, changeup, curveball.
He's batting .036 against off-speed pitches and batting just .130 against breaking ball pitches this year and he is above a 30% whiff rate on both of those pitch types this season.
So Swanson, give him a chance to watch the game from the sideline, watch a, a game on the bench and see, see if that helps.
See if that helps.
Let him go through, you know, mentally get back into a better head space because right now Swanson is definitely reeling at the plate.
But let me know what you guys think about this mental reset.
Do you think it's going to help him?
Let me know down below and as always guys, go Cubs go.
