ぶらり東京散歩その27～目黒寄生虫館 Tokyo Stroll 27 Meguro Parasitological Museum.

On my way visiting temples and shrines in Meguro, I stopped by the famous Meguro Parasitological Museum. It’s a bit of a walk from the station. The building looks like a typical office building, so if you’re not paying attention, you might easily walk right past it.

寄生虫学専門の私立博物館で、公益財団法人目黒寄生虫館が運営している。入場料は無料。任意で寄付を募っており、1階展示室の脇にパンフレットとともに募金箱が置かれている。私も1000円寄付してきた。６階建てで、展示は１階と２階のみ。フロアはあまり広くない。
This private museum specializes in parasitology and is operated by the Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Meguro Parasitological Museum. Admission is free. Donations are voluntary, and there is a donation box along with pamphlets beside the first-floor exhibition room. I also donated 1,000 yen. The building has six floors, but exhibitions are only on the first and second floors. The exhibition space is not very large.

広くはない…が、なんといってもフロア一面に寄生虫の標本が並んでいるのはある意味壮観である。
Though the space is limited, the sheer number of parasite specimens displayed across the entire floor is quite a spectacle.

説明展示やパネルも充実している。小中学生が自由研究？のためか、一生懸命メモを取ったりしていた。
The museum also has thorough explanatory panels and displays. I saw many elementary and middle school students busily taking notes—probably for their independent research projects.

これがビルゲイツも一緒に記念撮影したという全長８ｍ超のサナダムシの標本。

説明パネルの写真の中には結構グロいものもある。

ハイテクでこそないが、大変充実した、運営側の熱意が伝わってくるような展示の数々。
The museum isn’t high-tech, but it offers a very comprehensive and passionate exhibition.

世界でも数少ない寄生虫専門博物館（韓国に「寄生虫博物館」ができるまでは世界唯一だったのだとか）ということで、ビル・ゲイツをはじめ、外国からの来訪者も少なくないそうだ。
As one of the few parasitology museums in the world (and reportedly the only one until a similar museum opened in South Korea), it attracts many visitors from overseas, including Bill Gates.
