Lately I’ve felt that my usual spots for autumn-leaf viewing have gotten a bit stale, so on this day I decided to venture out to a new one. Otaguro Park is a strolling Japanese garden built on the former estate of the music critic Motoharu Otaguro (1893–1979). Located in a quiet residential neighborhood less than a ten-minute walk from Ogikubo Station, it has recently been gaining attention online as one of Tokyo’s notable fall-foliage spots. Just nearby are Gaigai-sō Park, once the residence of Prime Minister Fumimaro Konoe, and Kadokawa Garden, formerly the home of the founder of Kadokawa Publishing. Suginami Ward promotes these three sites collectively as the “Ogikubo Three Gardens.”
