In a country that is home to the one of the most influential fashion capitals of the world, lawmakers have taken a stand(抵抗、反対する)against the ultrathin ideal that many in the clothing industry espouse(採用する、支持する). The French National Assembly passed a law on Tuesday criminalizing the promotion of extreme thinness or eating disorders like anorexia(食欲不振、無食欲症)and bulimia(過食症)in the mass media. Those who endeavor to do so could face stiff fines and possible jail time. Fashion magazines, advertisers, and websites will be affected by the new law, which targets pro-anorexia websites in particular.
