　国際的な枠組みを議論する組織を脱退すれば、我が物顔に何でもできるというのは如何なものか。私は、かつての日本が国際連盟を脱退した経緯とその結果を想起する。独善的自国中心主義によって、将来的なヴィジョンがないまま国際的な枠組みを破壊するのは、今や、かつての日本を持ち出すまでもない。世界中が混乱に陥っているその根底に、毒ガスを吹き出しながら泥土のごとく横たわっている主張である。

　吉川貴盛農林水産大臣は「多くの国民にクジラを食べてもらい、捕鯨産業が永続するよう願っている」と言い、前田晋太郎下関市長は「下関の歴史において節目になる」と言い、下関市内の鯨料理専門店の店長は「食料品自給率の低い日本にとって、鯨は持続可能な海洋資源」と言った。（朝日新聞、7月１日夕刊の貞松慎二郎・宮永敏明・東孝司・荻原千明各氏連名記事による）

　農林水産大臣の挨拶は、軽薄感が漂う。
　「歴史の節目」とは、いやはや、安っぽい。「木に竹を接ぐ」という表現がある。物事が不調和なことである。私は思う。商業捕鯨が禁止されたときこそ「節目」であったかもしれず、政治家としては新たな町の活況を構築するための絶好のチャンスであったのではあるまいか。
　世界的視野に立った高度な理念を期待できない政治家の言葉は、常に貧弱だ。多分、彼らの知識の欠如だ。
　料理店の店長の言説は、論理的に倒錯している。日本の食料自給率が低いのは何故かという点こそ議論しなければならない。これは農林水産大臣に突きつけなければならない問題である。第一次産業を壊滅的にした国策の責任者がここに来ているではないか。さらに、国際捕鯨委員会において商業捕鯨を禁止することにしたのは、鯨が持続可能な海洋資源ではないことが分かったからである。人類の欲望は限りなく、飽食の限りを尽くしてもなお他の生物を絶滅するまで狩ってきた。クジラについても然り。国際的な枠組み作りは、この種を保存すべくようやく人智が働いたところだったのだ。
　身も蓋もないことを私は言っていると思われるかもしれないが、鯨は頭の良い優しい生物であり、種族間のコミュニケーション能力は人間が本来的に備えている能力をはるかに超えていることが分かっている。

　間も無く捕鯨船の甲板は膨大な血の海となるであろう。私たちはその流された血に酔うのであろうか。

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries's
greetings are frivolous.
Mayor's " a milestone of history" is, eh, so cheap.
There is an expression that "attach bamboo to tree".
It means that things are discordant. I think. It may
have been a milestone when the International Whale
Fishing Control Treaty was banned, and as a politician
it might not have been a great opportunity to build a
new boom in the town.
The words of politicians who can not expect ad-
vanced ideas from a global perspective are always
poor. Perhaps their knowledges are so scarce.
The restaurant manager's discourse is logically
perverted. It is important to argue why Japan's food
self-sufficiency rate is low. This is a problem that
must be addressed to the Minister of Agriculture,
Forestry and Fisheries responsible for national policy
that has ruined the primary industry. Furthermore,
we decided to ban commercial whaling at the Inter-
national Whaling Commission because we found that
whales are not sustainable marine resources.
The desires of humanity are limitless, and even after
when full, man have hunted other creatures untill they
are extinct. The same is true for whales. The inter-
national framework was finally where human wisdom
worked to preserve this species.
It may be thought that I am saying that there is
neither a body nor a lid, but whales are kind and
smart creature, and it has been found that inter-
family communication skills are far beyond the capa-
bilities that humans inherently possess.

In a short time, the deck of the whaling vassel will
be a sea of enormous blood of whales. Are we intoxi-
cated by the blood shed?
