創造論と進化論 Creationism and evolution theory
多くの日本人にとって進化論は学校でも学ぶし、当然のこととして受け取られている。しかしキリスト教の国では聖書の教えに忠実な創造論者がおり、人間は神によって作られたという創造論のみを教える学校もあると聞いた。最近のニュースによるとローマ法王が進化論および宇宙の始まりがビッグバンによるという説は正しいという趣旨の発言をしたというので驚いた。ところがこれは現法王が始めてではなく既に１９５０年代に進化論を認める発言をした法王がいたということなのでさらに驚いた。カトリックというと保守的で、地動説のガリレオを迫害したイメージを持っていたが、このニュースの記事によるとプロテスタントの福音派（エバンジェリスト）信者の多くが創造論の信仰者でカトリック以上に保守的のようだ。日本のキリスト教徒にも創造論を熱心に唱える人がいて、戸惑ったことがある。それにしても西洋の科学者には熱心なキリスト教徒が沢山いて、聖書に書かれている奇跡と科学の折り合いをどうつけているのかと不思議に思ってきた。これは個人個人で違うのかも知れないが、法王のこの発言についての記事の著者は”聖書に書かれていることは正しい、しかしすべてが実際に起こったことではない” と結論づけていた。 We learned evolution theory at school and have taken it for granted. But in Christian countries many believes creationism and some schools teach it to explain the advent of human being and other living creatures. I was surprised to hear that the Pope of Roman Chatholic said publicly something like "Evolution theory and big bang are real". I was further suprised to learn that another Pope said the same thing in 1950s. In my knowledge Catholic has been very conservative since the time of Galileo who was persecuted when he advocated heliocentric theory. The article reporting this news mentions that Evangelists of Protestant (follow the bible strictly and) are as conservative as Catholics. There are Japanese Christians who believe the creationism and firmly stick to their belief. I know scientists in Western countries who are eager Christians. I wonder how they hormonize their faith with science. The author of this article concludes that while the Bible stories contain truth, they didn't all necessarily happen.

夏時間 Summer Time
森元首相が夏に行われる2016年オリンピックの暑さ対策として夏時間（サマータイム）を提案したというニュースがあった。同じ日のＣＮＮのネット版に現在3月から11月までの夏時間を1年中やった方がいいという記事があった。アメリカではすでに1年中夏時間を実行あるいは準備中という州があるそうだ。その記事があげている主な理由の第一は勿論エネルギーの節約で、電気料の0.5％が節約できるという研究結果があるという。第2の理由は健康上の問題で、冬時間から夏時間に変わる時に、心臓病が25％増えると報じている。睡眠とバイオリズムが狂うためで、病人や老人には影響が大きいと言う。また時計やラジオなどの機器も時間変更しなければならないので、手間がかかるのは確かだ。森さんの提案に対して安部首相は役所の賛成が難しそうだと言ったと報じられている。アメリカでも議会の承認を得るのが大変そうで、議会対策が必要のようだ。確かに日本では時間が変更になると、学校、職場、交通機関など相当の混乱がありそうだ。アメリカでの調査によると多くの人が年中夏時間あるいは年中冬時間（１年中同じ時間制度）に賛成しているらしい。 It was reported that former prime minister Mori proposed daylight-saving time during 2016 Olympic period to avoid hot daytime of mid-summer. On the same day CNN proposed online to keep up daylight saving time all the year. In US some states have already adopted or been moving to permanent daylight saving time. The main reason is that it saves energy. According to the survey conducted by US Energy Ｄepartment 0.5 % electricity is saved. Secondly shifting time causes 25 % increase in heartattacks during the following few days. This is attributed to the disruption of the quality of sleep and biological rhythms. It affects especially elderlies and patients of heart disease. To Mr.Mori's proposal, PM Abe responded that it was a good idea but might be hard to get the consent from the offices of different ministries. Similarly in US they say that it is not easy to pass the bill at the state Houses. Certainly the shift of time will cause troubles in various aspects of our lives. In fact numerous polls in US showed that many people wanted to have the permanent daylight saving (or permanent winter time).

新エネルギー Renewarable Energy
原発事故の後、火力発電の比重が増して燃料費が高騰し、新エネルギーの開発機運がさらに大きくなった。このため太陽光などの新エネルギーによる電力を電力会社が高く買い取ることが義務付けられた。しかし最近、電力会社が買い取りを拒否して、新エネ開発会社の経営が行き詰まっている。こういう政策は早かれ遅かれ行き詰まることは予測できたことではないだろうか。新エネ実用の先進国ドイツでも似たような問題があると聞いたことがある。大量生産するようになればコストダウンできると言われていたが、その効果の程度は予測できた筈である。まだ既存の発電法に対して競争力がないということであり、そのめども立たない現状では、原子力発電を容認するか、ほぼ恒久的に高い電気料金を受け入れるかになりそうだ。新エネルギーとしては環境保護の観点から水素エネルギーの利用にも国は力を入れるようだが、これも同じような問題がある。まず原料の水素をどうして製造するかが大問題である。現在燃料電池車は石油を原料として製造した水素を使っているようだが、これでは環境問題の解決にはならない。他の水素製造法である水の電気分解は発電の燃料として化石燃料を使うなら意味がない。もともとエネルギーとしてならば電気をそのまま使えばよいわけだから、水素の利用は燃料電池車などの限られたものだけになる。技術政策では夢を語らなければならないのだろうが、今回の新エネ発電の問題は新技術の実用化には十分な実証実験が必要であることを示している。 In the wake of Fukushima nuclear disaster, the cost of electric power rose due to the hike of gas and oil price resulted from the increased demand on those fuels. Such situation prompted the government to turn to renewable energy more than ever. And to promote the use of the new energy sources power companies were mandated to buy electricity produced by them. However the power companies recently refused to buy them because of their high cost and inconsistency of the supply, putting newly established companies for renewarable energy in trouble. But it could have been predicted that this occurs sooner or later. The similar problem was reported in Germany where the practical use of new energy is most advanced. It shows that these technology is still inmature for practical use and so there is a need for more development. Apparently we have to either approve nuclear power or abide by high cost of thermal power generation.In the light of environmental protection the government pushes ahead with the use of hydrogen energy. I am afraid that it will end up with the same problem as electric power. To begin with, the production of hydrogen is tecnically very tough. For fuel cell vehicle I hear that hydrogen is produced from petroleum at present. Then it does not contribute to environmental protection. Another method of getting hydrogen by the electrolysis of water is meaningful only when the electricity is generated from renewalable energy. Considering that in many industries electric power can be used directly without converting to hydrogen, the use of hydrgen may be limited to specific applications such as fuel cell vehicle. It is surely important to have dreams when we develop new technology. But this renewable energy incident shows that an elaborate plan is required for the practcal use of new technology.

他国大統領への中傷 Defaming the president of foreign country
韓国駐在の新聞記者が旅客船事故時の韓国大統領の所在について、ネットに男性と会っていたといううわさがあるという記事を載せたということで起訴された。日本のマスコミはこれを言論の自由への抑圧だと非難声明を出した。また、日本政府も菅官房長官が遺憾の意を表明している。しかしうわさの根拠を調べずに外国元首の私生活について公表することが言論の自由なのだろうか。韓国大統領の勤務時間と私生活の関係がどうなっているのか知らないが、公人であっても私生活の内容については出来るだけ公表を控えるべきだと思う。まして根拠の明らかでないうわさを興味本位で書くことは外国の元首に対して失礼だし、韓国国民も不愉快に違いない。言論の自由という名の下に知られたくない個人情報が暴露されている人は多いと思うし、またそうした暴露記事に影響されて対応に奔走する会社や役所なども多い。 A Japanese journalist was indited in Korea for defaming Korean president. He posted an article on the web in which he wrote about the rumour that Korean president (woman) was meeting a man when a ferry with high school students and other passengers on board wrecked and many of them died in Korea. Japanese media announced that the inditement of the journalist is the oppression against the freedom of press. And Japanese government also expressed its concern on the inditement. However is it the freedom of press to write online about the private life of the head of foreign state suggesting a scandal without obvious evidence ? Even public person should be allowed to have a private life. The article appears to aim just at appealing to people's curiosity. Korean people may not be happy about such article. I think that many people have suffered from media's prying eyes, and there are companies and government offices that have been affected by such inacurate articles.
