　全国でも珍しい三柱鳥居があるというので向島の三囲（みめぐり）神社を訪問しました。

　神社の奥にありました。

　鳥居と言っても門ではなく、 3 本の柱で 3 つの鳥居が井戸の周りを取り囲んでいるような形です。
三囲神社は、三井家の守護神の神社で、三柱鳥居は、三井邸から移築されたものだそうです。
境内には、三越のライオンも置かれています。

　三柱鳥居の所に、説明書きがあり、「三角石鳥居：三井邸より移す。原型は京都太秦（うずまさ）・木島（このしま）神社にある。」と書かれています。 木島神社といえば、秦氏の蚕の社（かいこのやしろ）のこと。 天之御中主神（あめのみなかぬし）を祭神としているということもあり、是非見に行ってみたいものだと思いました 。

I found Mihashira Torii or Three-pillar Torii in Mimeguri Shrine, Sumidaku, which is formed from three torii. They say the origin of the Torii comes from Konoshima shrine in Kyoto, diety of which is Amenominakanushi, founded by the Hata clan.

Today Mimeguri Shrine is more closely associated with the Mitsui clan who have been a powerful family of merchants and industrialists since the 17th century. The Mitsui family opened their first kimono shop in Tokyo in 1673. Around that time they chose Mimeguri Jinja as their guardian shrine. A number of statues on the shrine grounds have been donated by the Mitsui family. One of the more unusual statues is that of a lion which was moved here from the old Ikebukuro branch of Mitsukoshi department store in 2009.
