時空の旅わくわく日記

　写真は、入れ替え作業中のキューロクで、 1968 年 2 月頃、大宮操車場南端にある与野駅の北側にある大原橋付近から撮ったものです。 79658 、 29680 ， 59654 が確認できます。
　小学生の頃、しばしば大宮操車場で入れ替え作業をする蒸気機関車を日がな一日見ていました。与野駅で降りて、大宮駅方面に向かって歩いたところにある跨線橋大原橋の辺りが気に入っていました。大宮操車場の南端にあり、入れ替え作業中の蒸気機関車のほとんどを見ることが出来ます。
　現在のさいたま新都心は、大宮操車場跡地に造られました。大宮操車場は、東京における貨物輸送の北の玄関口として機能し、 1928 年に開業し、 1984 年に操車場機能を停止しました。東北本線の操車場として一部が現存しています。

The JNR Class 9600 is a 2-8-0 Consolidation-type superheated steam locomotive operated by the Japanese National Railways from 1913 to March 1976. The 9600s were used mainly as freight locomotives and could be considered to be the quintessential （典型的な） Japanese steam locomotive of the time, matching performance with Japanese ingenuity （創意工夫能力） . The locomotives were retired in 1976, and were among the longest serving steam locomotives in Japan.

Six more locomotives were built for use on private railways around Japan, with 39 more manufactured for use by the Taiwan Railways Administration as the Class DT580 and 9 more as the Class 80 for the Sakhalin Railway.
