Investing.com -- Citi initiated coverage of French retail technology company Vusiongroup SA (EPA:VU) with a "buy" rating, arguing that the market is underestimating its growth potential beyond a major Walmart rollout and the expansion of electronic shelf labels across global retailers.
The bank set a price target of €250, implying around 84% upside from the October 30 closing price of €135.80, and assigned the stock a "high risk" designation due to its historical volatility.
In a research note published Monday, Citi said Vusion was the global leader in electronic shelf labels (ESLs), with an estimated 40% share of a market that reached about €2.3 billion in 2025. Despite strong industry growth, global ESL penetration remains around 20%, leaving considerable room for further adoption as retailers seek to reduce labour costs and improve operational efficiency.
Citi believes Vusion can defend its market position as adoption increases, with additional growth coming from replacement cycles, software subscriptions and retail media.
The bank also sees scope for margin expansion as higher-margin value-added services become a larger share of revenue. Vusion's October acquisition of Spanish retail media company In-Store Media is expected to support that shift, with Citi estimating that a richer services mix could add 480 basis points to variable cost margins through 2028.
Citi argued that investors are overly concerned about a potential decline in sales following completion of Vusion's major U.S. Walmart electronic shelf label rollout. Recent contracts with retailers including Carrefour, Morrisons, Walmart Mexico and Walmart Canada should help support future demand, it said.
The bank opened a positive catalyst watch ahead of Vusion's November 18 capital markets day, which it views as a potential trigger for a valuation re-rating.
Key risks include weaker-than-expected demand after the Walmart rollout, increased competition, cybersecurity threats and possible regulatory restrictions on electronic pricing labels.
