Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (ALNY) stock fell 25.1% on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.3%. The drop came on the day Alnylam reported third-quarter results that beat revenue estimates and hosted its earnings call. So what did management say about demand for its drugs?
Alnylam Is Not Yet Satisfied With Demand Growth
During the call, management said it is "not yet satisfied with the underlying demand growth" it has seen, adding that this is reflected in its outlook for the full year. The company expects TTR product sales, which come from its transthyretin drugs including AMVUTTRA, to land at the low end of its $4.2 billion to $4.5 billion range.
A company's own targets hold only if demand for its main product grows fast enough. For example, Tesla has over 1.7 million paid FSD customers, only half of them on subscriptions, far short of the 10 million subscriptions that Musk's pay package requires. Alnylam beat revenue estimates for the quarter, reporting $1.46 billion against an estimate of $1.43 billion. A one-time item lifted reported profit: GAAP net income of $2.2 billion included a non-cash tax benefit of about $1.9 billion, management said. Product revenue grew 52% from a year earlier to about $1.3 billion, led by AMVUTTRA.
Management also said that turning new prescribers into patient starts is taking longer than it had hoped, because many newer physicians have fewer cardiomyopathy patients and less understanding of the disease. Furthermore, Alnylam will issue its 2027 product revenue guidance alongside its fourth-quarter results in mid-February, rather than at the JPMorgan conference as in past years.
Did Other Drug Stocks Fall With Alnylam?
No. XLV, the SPDR fund for the health care sector, rose 2.4% during the same session, and four of the five companies on Alnylam's peer list advanced. Gilead Sciences gained 4.0% , while Ionis Pharmaceuticals, the one peer that fell, lost 1.1%.
The wider market was weaker, with the Nasdaq Composite index down 1.4%, but that index drop was a small fraction of Alnylam's. The stock fell on its own, not alongside its group.
Where Does Alnylam Stock Stand Now?
While a fall this large is rare for Alnylam, it is the second in three months. In the 365 days before this session, the stock recorded one other fall at least this large, a 28.3% drop on July 30, 2026.
Over the past twelve months Alnylam has lost 63.9%, compared with a 13.3% gain for the S&P 500. Its $174.00 close on October 29 marked its lowest finish in that year, while its highest close was $481.59 on October 29, 2025. Over the past six months alone, the stock is down 43.8%.
Alnylam is expected to report its fourth-quarter 2026 results in February 2027, and full-year TTR product sales are the measure to watch.
