Ripple buys 40-year-old firm in $1 billion deal

On Oct. 16, Ripple announced the acquisition of GTreasury, a 40-year-old global leader in corporate treasury management.

According to Ripple, the deal will unlock idle corporate capital, enable real-time cross-border payments, and prepare Fortune 500 firms to manage stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and other digital assets at scale. The partnership also provides access to the global repo market through prime broker Hidden Road.

"For too long, money has been stuck in slow, outdated payment systems and infrastructure, causing unnecessary delays, high costs, and roadblocks to entering new markets — problems that blockchain technologies are ideally suited to solve," said Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple CEO.

Ripple said the move opens access to the multi-trillion-dollar corporate treasury market, integrating blockchain technology directly into enterprise financial operations.

Ripple continues buying streak

This marks Ripple's third major acquisition in 2025, following its $200 million purchase of stablecoin platform Rail in August and the $1.25 billion acquisition of brokerage firm Hidden Road earlier in the year.

Founded in 1986, GTreasury serves Fortune 500 clients with solutions for cash, risk, and compliance management. CEO Renaat Ver Eecke called the merger a "watershed moment for treasury management," noting that the combined platform will shift treasuries from passive capital management to active deployment.

The transaction is expected to close in the coming months, pending regulatory approval.
