There's been quite a change from the open through noon. The Nasdaq was on track to pop 2% higher in the premarket, buoyed by spectacular results from Micron (MU) after the close yesterday. But as of this writing, the tech-heavy index is now off about 0.4%. Still, MU has managed to 'hang on' to a 14% pop, so the day is still a good one for those shareholders. Of concern is news that the Fed's favorite gauge of inflation, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index, hit its highest level in three years. That implies that the central bank will hold interest rates steady or possibly even increase rates to keep inflation in check.

  • United Airlines Earnings: Premium Segment Should Help Weather Fuel Price Shock; Shares Fairly Valued

Chicago-based United Airlines is a major US network carrier with hubs in San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Newark, and Washington, D.C. United operates a hub-and-spoke system that is more focused on international and long-haul travel, especially across the Pacific, than its large US peers.
