It is the third-largest producer of containerboard products and corrugated packaging, as well as a leading producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America. The company produces various corrugated packaging products, including conventional shipping containers used to protect and transport manufactured goods. PKG also produces multicolor boxes and displays for packaged retail products and meat boxes and wax-coated boxes for agricultural suppliers. Packaging Corp. of America was founded in 1867. It operates seven mills and 85 corrugated products plants and related facilities. The company has approximately 15,400 employees and is headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois. The shares are a component of the S&P 500.
