World Foundation has raised an initial $52.5 million through a strategic sale of locked WLD tokens, giving the Sam Altman-backed identity network capital to expand World ID across consumer platforms, enterprise services and AI agents.

Pantera Capital led the first close, joined by Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings (NASDAQ: $ORBS), Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto and other investors. Every WLD token sold is subject to a 12-month lockup, a structure the foundation said reflects long-term support for the network's growth and utility.

The tokens are intended for use inside World Network and do not represent equity in Tools for Humanity or rights to profits and investment returns. World Foundation, the independent nonprofit steward of the protocol, will direct the proceeds toward bringing its proof-of-human technology to organizations and users globally.

More From Cryptoprowl:

World ID lets people verify they are unique humans without disclosing their identity. A one-time scan through World's Orb creates a credential stored on the user's phone, using cryptography and anonymized multi-party computation to keep biometric information private.

Pantera Capital general partner Cosmo Jiang said the need for proof of human is becoming "acutely clear" as AI development accelerates, pointing to enterprise interest in technology capable of separating people from bots and autonomous agents online.

World enters the next stage with more than 39 million people on its network, including over 18 million verified through an Orb. Users have generated more than 475 million World ID proofs since launch.

The foundation is also pushing World ID 4.0 as enterprise-ready infrastructure for integrations and developer-built credentials. World ID is being integrated with platforms including Zoom (NASDAQ: $ZM), DocuSign (NASDAQ: $DOCU), Okta (NASDAQ: $OKTA), Vercel and Tinder.

The funding arrives three years after World launched into production, with the project shifting from network expansion toward wider utility. Its next test is whether proof of human can become a standard layer for an internet increasingly shared by people and AI.

Worldcoin (CRYPTO: $WLD) is currently trading at $0.38 U.S. per digital token.
