How we chose the best sticky bras
As a shopping writer, I'm always testing products to find those that stand out from the rest. I've been wearing backless bras for years (I've been repurchasing one of my favorites for more than 15 years). To hone in on the best sticky bras, I reached out to Yahoo's style editors and product-testing experts for their top picks, scoured customer reviews and consulted experts, including a wardrobe stylist and intimate apparel specialist.
To land on my final list, I considered size, materials, support, care instructions, the range of inclusive skin tones available and reusability to make sure you're getting the best bang for your buck. Do sticky bras actually work?
Yes, there's a solution suitable for nearly any breast size and shape, but it's important to choose the right shape for your outfit and apply a sticky bra with a few parameters in mind. "You should never put lotions or oils on your skin when you plan to apply an adhesive bra," says Sena. And beware wearing in sweaty conditions: "Anyone who sweats (or even if you inadvertently use lotion), the adhesive won't stick," she adds.
What type of sticky bra is best?
The best sticky bra for you depends on your breast size and the outfit you're trying to accommodate. For larger breasts, boob tape could be a good bet as it offers the most customizable option and can help create lift and support. For smaller breasts, you can get away with simply wearing nipple covers or opt for sticky cutlets that clasp together for some cleavage.
How long do adhesive bras last?
"It depends on the make and manufacturer," McKenna says. Some options, like Cakes , can last years, and Boombas claim to last for over 40 uses, while "others I have thrown out after my first wear," she adds. "If you tend to sweat a lot or have oily skin, you may only get two to three uses out of it due to the adhesive," Sena says. "If not, you should get 10 to 20 uses. Be sure to reapply the protective plastic strips on the adhesive when you're done using and whenever it's not in use." Sena also added that she finds that Cakes in particular last a very long time.
How do I wash my sticky bra?
"Follow the instructions," McKenna says. "Every backless bra has special washing instructions." Sena agrees but says that generally, you can "fill a bowl with some warm water and a few squirts of dish detergent and gently clean with a sponge." Rinse well and lay flat to dry in a cool, dry place. Do not pat to dry with a towel or any other material.
Are sticky bras reusable?
They are, but adhesive bras can't be worn as often as standard bras. Luckily, their lower price reflects their shorter lifespan. "If the bra has lost some of the stickiness over time ... you can clean the adhesive surface with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue that could be affecting its stickiness," McKenna says.
What can I wear instead of a sticky bra?
Sena recommends nipple covers for both small and large busts. "I recommend silicone nipple covers wherever possible as a low-maintenance option to get the modesty of a bra without having to deal with a sliding strapless," Sena says. However, nipple covers don't offer any support or shaping so you can also opt for boob tape or push-up bra inserts if you prefer.
