The Japanese government has financed the construction of a VIP arrival lounge at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane with US$3 million, to receive leaders attending the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in November. Deputy Director General of the Civil Aviation Department, Mr Vanpheng Chanthaphone, said on Thursday the special facilities were designed to enable heads of state and government to enter the terminal unimpeded by the presence of other passengers. Work on the single-storey building began last November on an area of almost 3,000 square metres. The whole project is now 45 percent complete and should be finished in September.
