The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology yesterday warned people living on both sides of the Xebangfay River, which borders Khammuan and Savannakhet provinces, that the river may flood from June 18-20. The department's Director General, Ms Souvany Phonvilay, told Vientiane Times that the level of the river at the Xebangfay Bridge had risen to 18 metres at 7am on Monday morning. “The level at the bridge is over the warning level of 17.5 metres and the area could flood at any time as more rain is expected until Wednesday,” she said.
