2025 年 8 月に台湾鉄道嘉義駅で見かけた E500 型の E528 電気機関車です。

E500 型は、台湾で初めての日本製電気機関車で、 2023 年 10 月、グッドデザイン賞を台鉄と東芝が共同で受賞しています。

2023 年から台湾で運用が開始され、自強号（特急）を前後 2 両のプッシュプル牽引している他、莒光号（急行）の牽引も担っています。 2025 年 7 月からは観光列車「鳴日号」や「環島之星」などのけん引にも投入されているようです。
