In my previous entry, I mentioned that three dragonfly nymphs had died. Yesterday, four more died, and this morning another one was gone. 😢 Out of the roughly 30 nymphs we started with, only about 20 remain. 🥲 Most of the deaths seem to be due to cannibalism. ⚡
To prevent further cannibalism, I split the plastic case into two, keeping around 10 nymphs per case, and added a thin layer of gravel at the bottom. Ideally, I wouldn’t have used gravel, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Yesterday, I also bought two tweezers at a 100-yen shop and let the kids feed the nymphs. They got frustrated when the nymphs didn’t bite right away. Feeding these nymphs is surprisingly similar to fishing—it requires patience and timing!
